I have closed the forums to new postings because there was not enough discussion, I answered nearly all the questions, and I no longer work on Kino. Please use the forums provided by your Linux distribution. Meanwhile, I will leave this open in read-only mode to serve as a knowledge base.

The linux1394 faq suggests using the kernel that comes with a Linux distribution. However some of these do not work with ieee1394.

In particular the SuSE 7.1 and 7.3 kernels (2.4.0 and 2.4.10) do not work. What about other distributions?

The Linux1394 Getting Started Guide is going to change soon to reflect the fact that most users do not need to patch a kernel. Rather, most users are using ieee1394 from a known good 2.4.x kernel release. Also to be covered are topics such as devfs and hotplugging.
